World in Focus

I recently submitted some photos to my first photo contest. It's the World in Focus contest hosted by National Geographic Traveler and Photo District News. I haven't got a chance in hell of winning, but it was worth a shot.

The first two photos were submitted in the "Wilderness Category" and the third shot was submitted in the "Human Condition" category.

Spoon Fudge

I recently finished up a new round of photos for the folks at Charssi Spoon Fudge company. I'm sure I've said it before, but I really should charge an extra fee for every pound I gain during a photo shoot. After this one, I'd never have to work again!

Be sure to watch their site for the new photos (and don't forget to order some fudge while you're there!)

Gearing up for the Farmers' Market

It's hard to believe another market season is approaching. This is my 6th year with the Brattleboro Farmers' Market, located on Route 9 west (off exit 2) in Brattleboro. We had our "site day" yesterday, which is when we all get together to clean up the site and choose our booth spots. We choose our spots based on a point system. Every vendor gets points for things like volunteer duties, being a member of the board or a committee, and attendance. Because I've served on the board for the last couple of years, I'm moving up the list and got to choose my spot fairly early in the day. I chose to be in a completely different area of the market then I have been in for the last 5 years, so with new and unfamiliar neighbors, it will be almost like starting over again.

If you happen to be in Vermont between May 5th and the last weekend of October, be sure to stop by our market. It's every Saturday from 9-2.

Soap Panorama

I recently did a photo shoot for Goldenwood Soap, a company in Oregon. The client wanted a large panorama shot for a vinyl banner plus a photo to be used on a business card.

This was a really fun photo to create. Because she will be blowing it up to a 6' banner, instead of taking one photo and cropping it down to a long, skinny format, I took three individual photos and stitched them together to make one looooong print. The finished photo is enormous, and has tons of detail (the small web version doesn't do it justice). I just love the colors of her soap, and my studio still smells fantastic!

This is photo shows the three individual photos before they were joined together:

This is the shot she chose for her business card:

Commercial Photos

I just finished up a new batch of photos for Greenridge Herbals...

This group shot was my favorite out of the bunch, and quite difficult to create. It's hard to tell from looking at a small, web sized version, but it is incredibly sharp, from front to back, thanks to the use of the 85mm PC Nikkor lens. This shot will look fantastic blown up to poster size...

Planning a trip to Vietnam?

When I was traveling in Vietnam, I had a great tour guide named Huong. His wife e-mailed me recently to let me know that they, along with some friends, have recently started their own tour company- VietVision Travel- doing tours throughout Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

They have a great selection of tours to choose from and arranging private tours is very simple and inexpensive. Just e-mail them and let them know what interests you. If it's photography, ask for Huong... I can highly recommend him!
