Commercial Photography

I just finished up a really big shoot for Aroma Haven/Rustic Escentuals, a fragrance oil and candle making supply company from South Carolina. Our goal was to create a set of 13 pictures to represent the dozens of different scents available to crafters on her website.

It was a challenge keeping all of the props organized and fresh throughout the shoot, and I created a HUGE mess, but this was a fun job and I'm really happy with the results.

Awang, Awang

I booked my flight to Bali yesterday. I leave on February 17th arrive on February 19th, and come home on March 3rd. 13 full days in Indonesian island paradise!

I've chosen a location for the photo shoot in Bali. It's a private Villa just outside that goes by the name of Awang Awang. It's a gorgeous, open concept house, with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a pool and a million other amenities. It's the perfect location to rent out and spend a couple of days photographing soap. It sounds so extravagent, but at $320 a night, the prices rival that of a room at a Disneyland motel.

I'm going to Bali!

I have the best job in the world. In February, it will take me half way around the planet to the small Indonesian island of Bali. I will be spending several days working on a photoshoot for an Australian soap company, and the rest of time I will be focusing on shooting stock photos for Lonely Planet*. I will have a total of 10 days on the island, and though I wish it were longer, I think it will be enough time to give me a good feel for the island and the culture.

I'll be purchasing my plane tickets sometime this week, and plan on spending the next couple of months deciding on where to stay. I'm finding plenty of budget rooms, though, which I'm really excited about. I'd much rather stay at a $6 a night guest house then a $400 resort. I'm not going to fly 30 hours only to never leave my American style resort.

Planning is still in it's infancy right now, but I will sure to keep my blog updated as things come together.

Just to clarify... I don't work for Lonely Planet. YET. I am working on building by portfolio of travel photos which will all be submitted to Lonely Planet Images within the next year. So, while technically, I AM working for Lonely Planet, they just don't know it yet. :)

New Background Choices!

I went a little crazy over at PaperMojo a few weeks ago and spent several hundred dollars on some beeeeeautiful handmade papers. Large sheets of textured paper make great, inexpensive backgrounds for small items such as bath and body products, handmade soap and jewelry. Now, in addition to getting a basic white background, for only a few dollars extra you can choose one of these gorgeous papers.

Windrow and Main Soap Co.

If you are in the market for some deliciously natural and freshly scented handmade soap, look no further then Windrow and Main Soap Co. I was lucky enough to do the photography for the website, and two weeks later my studio still smells fantastic. Every bar tells a story and is filled with wholesome ingredients like Avocado oil or Lavender.
